Biography

I am a UK based guitarist, bassist, arranger, producer, and educator. My style is a fusion of jazz, rock, blues, and funk, influenced by both classic and contemporary players like John Scofield, George Benson, Mark Knopfler, and Robben Ford.

I started taking guitar lessons at age 8. Studying classical at first, I switched to electric in my early teens and played with many bands in northern Italy. I moved to Boston, MA, in the late 90s to attend Berklee College of Music on a scholarship program, where I gained a degree, studying under the direction of Mick Goodrick, Hal Crook, and Brett Willmott, among others.

Since then, I’ve been performing internationally as a sideman with iconic 60s bands such as Herb Reed & The Platters, The Coasters, and The Diamonds, Broadway/TV entertainers, including Roy Walker, Lorna Luft, Ben Vereen, as well as notable British session musicians and bands such as Jim Cregan, Robbie McIntosh, Jason Rebello, Cregan and Co, Down to The Bone, The Southern Companion, original members of Train, Sugar Ray, Cockney Rebel, Fairport Convention, and many more. I performed at renowned venues and events like The Roundhouse, The Hideaway, The Savoy, The Liverpool Empire and Cropredy Festival.

Aside from being involved in many projects for other artists, I have released two albums as a leader: “Entwined” (2009) and “Gianni Chiarello & The Same Beat” (2015).

I am the author of instructional guitar books, including “Contemporary Solo Guitar” (2008), “Contemporary Blues Soloing” (2009), “Contemporary Blues Chords and Comping” (2011), and other educational materials. I have been teaching privately and in academies for over 30 years, as well as online, hosting a popular lessons website for over a decade.
